it's amazing how a song can evoke a memory ...

It's All in a Song

I can't remember
the last time
I heard that song,
only that I remember
I cried then, too.
It's not a sad song
but the tears fall
just the same,
as though yesterday
was caught in my throat
and today is the gum
stuck to my shoe.
I wanted to yell
at the guy in the car
to roll up his window
and have a heart,
because he was
breaking mine.
I only walk
down this street
every now and again.
Please God,
someone tell him
tomorrow would be
a kinder day
to drive around
playing that song.

I like how Andy described it, songs are like a photo album of our mind, just as smells are too. This is a beautiful write, and I can relate very well, I have a few of those songs tucked away in my memory as well...have to be in the right mood to tolerate them without crying..you've wrote it well my friend, reading it has brought back a flood of memories that surround the one song that is a tear jerker to me....

Hi CJ, Andy's said it in a nutshell; songs are a photo album of the mind! How astute is that comment, eh? The heart needs a radical make-over before man can begin to experience real love and compassion for self and others.
Terrific poem...

See, this is what I'm talking about. Effortless, plain language evoking deep emotion. There are days and then there are days and some days just aren't good for pricking a memory.

I can feel your passion in this one. It is so amazing how music and song can trigger and record love as easily as a snapshot can and still bring on those same feelings of sadness years after the love has ended. great capture of your subject.
