Stormin' the Gates of Heaven

A memoir of days passed but not over.
I'm NOT done yet!
And remember 'Brother Funktop' says: "If I could write as fast as I talk, I'd be there by now!"

Stormin' the Gates of Heaven

it was 1995.... I was full of "Trout Dreams" & crazy schemes, on how to get from "A" to "C", while high-jumping over "B" --

I.  You were younger then and you still are (in heart & mind)
Intent on blowing up the line (the time-line that is)
Like the young poet said in your own damn song:
"you don't drive fast though you have a real fast car..."

It was '95 and you were on a "Celestial Road"
It ran through a cow pasture and a field of corn
Out through an old barn door then off the edge to the Milky Way.
Trout flies stuck in your hat, a few rammed into your arm,
That 'tailing loop' cast of yours on the old farm pond,
Even whipped a 'royal stimulator' backcasted that stuck you in the ass!
And remember the time you punctured your inflatable boat?
Put that in your book, with this footnote:
"Your were 'Stormin' the Gates of Heaven' brother-
You just gotta keep storming the gates of heaven!

II.  "Brother Funktop!" Yea, that was your name,
You were all that and anybody's friend,
A brother to every gnat & stray cat--
Jammin' jazzin' to the 4 walls, empty cafes and playing to
prayin' old ladies in empty church stalls.
Breakin' blues and inter-galactic sonatas,
Jazz ballads and symphonic themed tone poems
Sometimes up and loud, some sweet and lo...
Tender mountain melodies played so not to disturb
    the sleeping cat,
One day on, one day off -
But Fridays ya donned your fishing' hat.
1995, on that "Celestial Road"
Two symphonies in 2 years! Orchestrated in digital back thru all the tears--
A million more couldn't fill your vacant trout streams
On the celestial road, filled with "Trout Dreams"...

You were stormin' the gates of heaven, every half-moon, full moon, blue June,
In empty streams and quiet rooms, you were full of the 'Milky Way'
Cutting thru your corn rows, meditating on a moss-patch,
Some days nothing, then the hard-earned catch--
Releasing your sparkling Brookie diadem to a silver-stream of gemstone bubbles,
Turned and made the last cast downstream, under the Hollow's bridge
Just off the dirt-track of that 'Celestial Road'
You were meditating on the moonbeams, the confluent streams-
"Stormin' the Gates of Heaven" - but you fell back.
You were stormin' the gates of heaven....
            but... you fell back!

Tender mountain melodies played so not to disturb
the sleeping cat,
---passion for music, for life, along with sensitivity and a powerful sense of time passing...all that strikes me in this tide of 'Stormin' the Gates of Heaven'...

I read this the other day and wanted to contemplate it for review, Michael...Stormin' the Gates of Heaven has a hook! This is fine poetry! This streams over rock and rainbow memories. It's sunny days poetry under what rod and reel above casts in spiritual monofilament, dangling us with memories you've hooked...the wordage is just fantastic! Ripples and they're biting, Michael! Good to see you back.

Love,
Sage
