This poem is an extract from my novel, The Mejai. It was written by one brother for another. Both of their parents had died on the day that the little one was born; so the older brother had to leave what he was doing abroad to look after the little one for a while. Circumstances demanded of them to part when the little one was only 5 years old. So the older brother wrote this JOURNEYS BACK for the little and asked him to keep it with him at all times.

No journeys back, no progress:
No backward steps no great leaps forward.
Nothing is built without Journeys Back.
Thoughts are Journeys Back.
Knowledge depends on Journeys Back.
Teachers teach but only what had been gathered from Journeys Past.
Where one is "coming from" is what makes him that is human what he is:
To travel, to buy, to build, to invest, to secure, to remember, to gather, to get wise, to become powerful - all depends on Journeys Back.
All the things in our minds were placed where we found them by something in our past.
What placed all the things in our minds causes us to make Journeys Back...
Pasts harbour humans' strength in depth; and without them we shall be no where.
No Journeys Back, no progress; no backwards steps, no great leaps forward.
A Christian Child cannot be taught why there are Christians until he's taken BACK to The Bible.
A Muslim Child cannot be taught why there are Muslims until he's taken BACK to The Koran.
A Jewish Child cannot be taught why there are Jews until he's taken BACK to The Torah.
No journeys back, no progress:
No backward steps no great leaps forward.
Nothing can be affirmed without Journeys Back.
A non-believer cannot show why he Does-Not-Believe until he's taken people BACK to his Thoughts.
The Believer cannot teach children why there are People of different Races, Languages and Religions until he's taken them BACK to the Scriptures.
No Journeys Back, no progress.
No backwards steps, no great leaps forward.
Nothing can be affirmed without Journeys Back.
Take the children BACK to the Scriptures, Believer.
Else they WILL not realise They Owe Protection to every Human of every Race and Tongue, regardless of his or her beliefs.
Take them that are yours BACK to the root source that gave you Belief.
Else they cannot tell why there WILL be People of different Religions, Race, and Languages until then end of time.
No backward-steps, no great leaps forward.
No Journeys Back, no progress.”

| Nicely done. Very philosophical piece. Makes me want to explore the rest of your work more in depth. Thanks for sharing. |
