He came to the door behind her walker
his tail wagging and little mouth shaped with a grin.
When I entered he gently jumped up on my leg
and ever so tightly he hugged my shin.
She said his name was "Bounce"
and he was the last of her once four furry wonderful friends.
He watched us closely as she spoke about him to me,
she needed a place for him when she went to the hospital to mend.
This was a special little dog who loved to watch TV,
skip run and play with every dog that came his way.
This was a loving little dog who hugged everyone he could see,
and at night would lay his head in my lap and snuggle.
Mornings he would bounce out of his bed next to mine
and skip, hop out to potty with his canine friends.
I will remember him always...looking back towards me
and saying in his big brown eyes I am fine...I am fine.
Then one morning he wouldn't or couldn't rise ,
as he looked at me from his dogggie pillow at the foot of my bed.
I picked him up and carried him as soft breath sighs
fell from his doggie lips and his eyes stared at me from his limp head.
Oh little Bounce...how I love you... your happy smile,
and the your snug hugs against my shin.
I know it is your time... my loving friend you will leave me soon
but it will only be a short while.
We will be together again....I promise my friend....I will miss you my beloved companion...I love you Bouncie
............as he laid his head on my lap one last time.
