In the darkness of the night
When all is frigid and there’s no light
The stillness reminds us of our plight
We can choose to remember our blessings
Or we can choose to consider what we’re missing
Still, some may delight in going ice fishing
In the darkness of the night
Some of us consider that we will not give up the fight
We will attack life’s challenges with all our might
Though life’s rewards are few or many
To choose strength to accept these challenges keeps life sunny
To wallow when faced with challenges is to consort with the enemy
In the darkness of the night
Some poets will write
Others will take this time to enjoy the quiet
Each chooses to look into their heart and soul
Perhaps it involves taking a stroll
Better, yet, enjoy a hearty soup bowl
In the darkness of the night
I pray you take time to recite
Your thanksgiving for His wondrous light
Each night that you remember Him
The sadness in your life will dim
While you raise His praises in hymn
