Never Talk To Strangers!

My daughter is so social and friendly and is having a hard time with this concept.....

Little one, little one
open your ears and listen to mama
Never, never, never talk to strangers!
they may have a smile plastered to their faces
or even offer you your favorite candy
but darling not everyone is nice
not every smile promises a warm hug or a loving touch
and their candies are sometimes full of worms!
I know, I know you say
"But mommy the world is so beautiful, surely everyone should be nice"
I wish for all our sakes this was true
and It aches my heart to tell you this
a stranger is not only someone you don't know
but also someone who doesn't know our secret code word
they may smile pretty, be pretty, have on fancy clothes and even smell good too
but they don't love you as much as I do
and for that reason alone
they themselves should know never talk to strangers!

(We have a secret code word, say someone comes and tells her that I asked that they picked her up, if that person doesn't know the code word, she should scream at the top of her lungs and call for help--while running away. It is a sad world indeed)

It's true, they teach this in schools here and should EVEREYWHERE!
SAd 2 SAy, dishonest people do roam our streets, roads, oceans and where people are, and we (parents) must teach our young the way of the world!

...so sad but so true that a child's vision of a beautiful world should be tainted but you have done the best thing and prepared her and educated her for her safety. May God send extra angels her way:) -Lyn

Bernice,
You know that I'm always concerned about safety, especially that of the little ones. So many crazy people out there. This is a great poem and a great way to keep reminding your little angel. She told me that mommy wrote a poem to/for her, and that you and she have been
practicing "Never Talking to Strangers"

Bernice, After raising three beautiful children, I can relate to this poem. Yes there is danger in our beautiful world, but being smart about it all saves lives. Great message in your poem, You are such a wonderful person and mother!

Yes, never never ever talk to strangers. The time when strangers were good people with a friendly smile as gone, now we have a new breed, predators, and one can ask self how we let it to go so far? why society allowed that social cancer to grow and diversify in all its levels?
Yes, don't talk to strangers, and sometimes not even with some members of your own family. How we let that happen?

Bernice,
Always a concern for caring loving wise parents and you are certainly one of those...the tenderness and love you have for your daughter is undeniable but unfortunately you have to warn her against the nastiness and evils of the world.

Indispensable wisdom for the young and old. Even when adults intend no harm they should know that by interacting with little ones unfamiliar with them, when parents or guardians are not around to sanction such interactions, then they are encouraging children to interact with others who might be the exact opposite. (Obviously emergency situations are a completely different matter.) Appreciate the read.

I hate, Hate, HATE that the world has come to this!! I hate never knowing if it is truly a safe enough place to let me children play freely where I am not within eyesight. I wish that this was not such important advice...but...instead...the truth is, it is a sad commentary on the times we live in...that our children live in.

Sad that our world has come to this but it truly has. My grandaughter is also taught that you don't keep secrets parents...at first I thought this kind of extreme until my daughter explained that most child molesters tell kids that are conned into doing wrong things that it is a secret and not to tell anyone or bad things will happen to them or people they love...scarry this is the real world we live in.

Those who hurt kids have ruined it for the rest of us! Sad!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

I would NEVER hurt a child! EVER!!! Not ALL strangers are bad; yet people refuse to listen because of the bad ones! Tragic!!
