i sat on a porch
in North Dakota
my eyes in wonder
at the expansive view

a sea of wheat fields
alive in the wind
blossoming prospect
of amber grain

the acres rolled
grand and spacious
beyond were cattle
on grazing hills

the moment endless
eternity displayed
each seed, each stalk
talked on the wind

nuzzling affection
bowing to neighbors
tickling leaves
of potential

in glorious majesty
the fields stood proud
no thought of the
harvest to come

this grain, this field
of abundant bounty
would never die
just change form

it just had to be
and it would become
something far beyond
whatís originally known
