sitting on the porch at dawn this morning
grandmother moon is smiling
child, you look thin are you eating?
i acknowledge, i think i did
possibly yesterday morning
well, she said you shall feast this night
and i shall take care of the arrangements
whatever, i said in my soft voice
though she stirred in me an excitement
she winked out with a smile and
mother earth came by

she said child, lets walk through your garden
tell me what do you see?
i replied, i see spring flowers,
daffodils, freesias, and hyacinths
good, she said you have planted well
and what about the roses?
i gaze upon the severed bushes
having followed her instructions to
prune them severely, they look quite
dead i announce, perhaps they haven't survived winters frost -
nonsense, my dear, have a look
closer - everything is as it should be
they are sleeping gone dormant, but buds
soon will form, and sure enough
i saw their green tips, which brought a smile to my lips - and she departed

the elder indian arrived just then, giving his council of wisdom
your life is seasons patterned by nature
you are watched by the owl in the forest
you are a snake and should seek warmth
on the rocks in the sun
you'll renew energy and shed
winter's lethargic
be carefree
everything is as it should be
