Books by Debby & Gordon Rosenberg
watching the cat and how he stretches
I arch my back up then down
feeling groggy but coming alive
got 12 things in my head not making sense
open the cupboard some sound for the road
geeze what a mess
maybe I'll organize em some time
mumble out loud.. come on angel talk to me
and I reach in take one
cruising the foothills another cloudy day
seems like a week since the last sunny day
drop my lighter on the floor
as I reach down to get it I remember the cd
slide it in and turn up the volume
hoping somehow it will keep me from nodding
as the stripes on the road just keep blurring
the sound comes out with intensity
bang, bang, bang piano and drums
I can see them standing to get the momentum
wow..I immediately press repeat
I know somehow its singing at me
a melody now softens then loud
he wails "open up your eyes"
alright, alright I'm getting there
start looking around and reading the cars
bumper stickers, and license plates
numbers and letters nothing too clear
a pattern of 5's, six cars in a row
by now his chorus comes through again
"open up your eyes"..what? what should I see
I give up on the machines and watch the sky
one of those moments a break in the clouds
a beam of sunshine, baby is that you?
throwing light patterns across these hills
bang, bang, bang..piano and drums
the song starts over leading me on
