I never knew

I could close my eyes and be there.
The wind in my hair and the smell of
damp air that was all new to me,
but most of all the gentle rhythmic
washing of the waves.
A warm night in early summer
and the first beach I can remember.
You were there and so were they,
If they were not happy then,
I never knew.
I never knew.

It was all so exciting.
Not the first trip,
But the first VACATION I had ever been on.
The behemoth motor home away from home,
I think he borrowed from the company.
You were there and so were they.
If they were not happy then,
I never knew.
I never knew.

Later there was Mickey mouse,
and you got sick after space mountain,
we saw the home of future living,
and rode the teacups and found out
it's a small world after all.
You were there and so were they.
If they were not happy then,
I never knew.

I never knew.
I never knew.
I never knew.
