No one ever really wants to be someones charity. I wrote this after someone told me that the relationship we'd had was just her trying to help a friend get through a rough time. Ouch!
I hope you enjoy it.

I’ve been treated nice before,

I’ve seen a smile or two,

But in the end it was nothing

but a bullet to my heart,

a new hole

in the old soul

of my worn out shoes.

I’ve walked down a broken path,

With no flashlight and no backpack,

Tripping in the darkness

Not knowing where it would carry me,

I’ve been to the bottom and back you see.

And the last thing

That I‘d ever want to be,

Is some broken piece of charity,

Somebody’s pity project of the day, month or year,

So just move along,

If you’re not real,

I can make it on my own up this hill

Your charity’s not welcome here…

And for what it’s worth,

Know that I’ve been hurt,

But I’m still trying,

I’m not denying,

That there may still be,

someone out there just for me,

But I don’t want to ever be,

Somebody’s charity.

I’ve made mistakes that left me scared,

Done things I never thought I’d dare,

Even kept secrets from my best friends,

just like a leaf hanging in a tree,

I’ve let go of a lot of me.

But I don’t want to ever be,

Somebody’s Charity.

No, I don’t ever want to be,

Somebody’s Charity
