Genna Lyndsey prefers books to people. So when they get to close, she uses obscure quotes to push them at bay. But it doesn't always work...

There are many out there who feel that "Love" is a dirty word. I am not one of those.

Love is not a dirty word

No matter how you say it

The dirt is in the hurt you felt

When someone else betrayed it

I did not betray you

Or trample on your trust

I'm just the one here now

To witness your disgust

Let me explain it to you

In words I hope you'll hear

With the true st pure emotion

I swear, I love you dear

These words are meant for comfort

And not to cause you pain

As I watch you flinching

I'll say it once again

I love you, like a brother

I love you, my true friend

And when I say I love you

It's something I'll defend

It's not a dirty word

It's not a cause for war

It's simply affirmation

That you, I do adore

The poet's beloved has apparently been betrayed in the past and is unable to accept love again. The poem speaks as if the poet did not know how deep that betrayal was until she revealed her own love. This relationship has a long way to go. Excellent portrayal of a situation that sounds extremely challenging.
