Large ball of gray fur, long gray tail, perhaps
a little large for a cat describes my four-legged
friend, better known as my Jack Cat
A best friend who always makes me smile
I’ve had Jack for many years,
Or shall I say he’s had me,
For any one that has a cat, knows,
owning them can never be.
He’s no youngster anymore, than again,
neither am I.
There is nothing so peaceful as a cup of hot chocolate
sitting in my chair with Jack on my lap.
He warms me with his furry coat, and tells me
he’s happy too, when the only sound I hear from him is
his quiet “I love you” purr.
I tell Jack all my secrets and he looks up at me with his
emerald eyes and says, “Okay, I’ll never tell”
When I’m not feeling well, he just seems to know.
I’ll lay down on my bed, and he comes and lies by my head.
He looks at me with a questioning meow, and asks if I’m okay.
I pet his head and tell him, “Let me rest for a while”.
He jumps down from the bed, you may think I’m crazy
but I actually see him smile.
I have to arise early every morning to get to my job on time,
but I don’t need an alarm clock with this special friend of mine.
I slumber deeply, than hear an incessant meow, plus a gray tail
brushing across my face, Jack can tell time somehow.
And when day is done, and time for bed, Jack lays
right near my head.
Jack gives all he has of himself and
asks so little in return. Give him food, water,
a clean litter box, and what he gives back
is his unconditional and unwavering love.
