Feline Lament

I got two orphaned kittens. My older one was unhappy about it.

Why did they come here?

Aren’t I good enough for them?

I’ve always been number one,

Got all of their attention, well

I guess that’s done.

Two little kittens, identical twins

Little black devils here to take my place

I just can’t win.

When the kittens are there, it’s “aren’t

they cute”!  If you want cute, come

look at me.  When I came I was the

Cutest thing you’d ever seen!

They had no home, and remember,

when I was a kitten neither did I.

Gee, break out the tissues, I think

I’m going to cry.

My humans tell me not to hiss and

Growl, I’ll do what I want and get

Back the attention they stole somehow!

this is a pet story with a genuine human emotion woven neatly in -- we all wrestle with the possiblity of falling from our pearch at the top of the hill -- it happens to us and from the perspective of your lovely poem, it seems reasonsable that it happens in the world of pets -- peace and love my friend -- Jon Michael

This is fatastic! "Feline Lament" glows.

This closing lines are sublimely wise:

"My humans tell me not to hiss and
Growl, I’ll do what I want and get
Back the attention they stole somehow!"

In appreciation,

You have hit the proverbial nail on the head with this little ditty, Mary. Animals. Gotta love 'em. I have one. A dog. Named her Zoe, but I should have named the little whirlwind Tornado. she is all I can handle and then some. Loved this.

As usual, you make your little creatures think like humans -- and maybe they do. Nice write. Susan

This brings back memories of taking in a stray kitten. We already had three cats. Two accepted the youngster with some reservations, but the third tried to kill it every time they met. The little guy kept running away, and we finally were not able to find him again. This is a bad area for coyotes.

This is cute, Mary. Wonder if pets do think like that. I do know they can be very jealous of each other.
