To my Mom in heaven |
|
In her hospital bed, my Mother lay,
When I visited, it was hard to leave,
She always said, “daughter, stay”
I explained I had things to do,
she said, “okay, wonderful seeing you”
I visited every day, not knowing
how long she would last. She was
getting weaker by the day, and it
was on Mother’s day when my
precious mother passed.
My mother was the best, though
some would disagree, she was a feisty
woman, but meant everything to me.
From skinned knees to broken
hearts, and even today, I don’t
understand how she always
took away the pain.
It was May 9, that Mother’s Day
when Mom went away; and
once again that awful date and
another Mother’s Day
But she would say, don’t be
so forlorn, after all it is Mother’s Day
You have children too, they would want
you happy today, so go and be their Mom.
In memory of Elizabeth Schlee 1923-2004

Mary----my heart goes out to you
what a lovely poem-----i have experienced it in the reverse----and the pain can never be explained.
she is with you ----in all eternity---loving and encouraging you to go on----
much love from one mother to another

The way life dictates from mother to daughter to mother to daughter and the cycle of life continues yet we never forget either. Truely sorry for your loss and on such a special day, but remember all the warmth and love....
Be always safe,
Karen |

This poem says so much...although we love and mourn our parents passing and especially on Mother's or Father's Day we also have to keep in mind what they would want or for that matter what we would want our own children to do if we pass on. A visit to a gravesite...a special story remembered, or just a simple "I love you Mom" is probably the best thing you can do on that day.

Mary this is absolutly beautiful, for they will always be our Mom and I still thank God today for giving me the Angel my mom was. She too was a beautiful lady.

Mary:
This is too difficult for me to comment on. Being a "daddy's boy" then losing all my family except my dear brother was devastating. Being single and losing my mom is a blow I'll never recover from fully. Your poem is well done and all too honest. It brings back those horrid hospital days 3 years ago. |

A most moving, meaningful, and loving tribute to your mom, Mary. Thank you for sharing it. Love and best wishes to you,

Mary -- as usual, your poems are always very touching. With Mother's Day so near it makes the poem so much more meaningful.
As she said, Mother's day works in two directions from Mother - daughter -- and then from that daughter to her children.
May you have a peaceful Mother's Day. Without our mothers where would we all be? Susan |
