Fifty years of friendship, a wonderful thing, what more can be said,
Than I think back to long ago, where it all began.
Two little girls, one had just moved in. They were both rather
lonely, so of course, became good friends.
We played, we fought, though fights lasted two minutes.
I remember times of anger, "I don’t' believe a thing you say!"
Five minutes later…."Can Gail come out and play?"
We grew up together, like sisters we clung to each other,
Dolls, toys, then before you knew it, all that was put away,
a new interest…boys.
But we thought our friendship would come to an end
When my Dad said we were moving to a faraway place.
We would miss each other terribly, but didn't see
how we could remain friends.
I moved, we wrote, you still remained my best friend
We missed each other, but when we received each other's letters,
There was always a smile. After all, with true friendship
what are a few thousand miles?
Thanks to the Postal Service, we always kept in touch,
important events in our lives were never out of reach
Distance means nothing when there is love.
We went through our lives, told of graduations, marriages,
having children; and this still boggles the mind. When
we both found out we were pregnant and at the same time!
We're both grandmas now, and I still miss you so much
But thanks to the Postal Service and 'Ma Belle'
We'll always keep in touch.
So happy anniversary Gail, this is a very special one.
I'll be seeing you soon, we have a lot to say, love to
meet your new family, hope you told them who I am
After all, not many people can say, they've had a literal
life long friend!
