Rejction slips

Another letter, another piece of paper to decorate my wall,
A slip again telling me 'can't use it at this time'.
Is it that bad, have you even browsed it at all?
Oh well, what different does it make, it's just an
inconvenience writers must take.
They say the great writers, ones that are now rich
Took years and years before they finally got a catch.
Even they couldn't pull it off without a hitch.
It's not easy, it's an unbelievable feat
Many I know have marvelous talent
Yet even they can't make ends meet.
Before this became a semi-profession,
I wrote only for me.   I wrote for fun, and to
vent feelings out. Perhaps that's the way
it should be.
No, I'm no published author, may never be.
So for now; no more writing to please another.
But give me some time, and surprised  you'll be….
when  you see my name proudly shining on a cover!

Ya know, they say when looking for love, stop looking and he/she will appear. It sounds like that is what you are doing with your poetry in a way. Writing to please yourself again/now and in doing so placing faith in the future of your semipro self. I applaud. Be well, Kathy

that's exciting and brave of you that you are sending out in this day and age. I wish you success. I just wonder where I would send "out" to. You are much better poet than a few years ago. Go!

the pen is a fascinating instrument capable of stirring men's souls or inciting riots - it is a very difficult tool to make a living with - I wish you the very best in your endeavor - it is not for those without great tenacity and a thick skin - so learn to be tough and patient - I wish you love and peace my dear friend - Jon Michael

The starving writer is probably ten times more common than the starving artist. At least an artist can hawk wares at street fairs. There are those who make a living with writing, but they tend to be writing for magazines or newspapers (quickly going out of business). That's the way Samuel Clemens made a living before finally writing Huckleberry Finn.

Sounds like you've got the right attitude with this poem of the problem.

I gave up and went the self-publish way. I don't regret it. I have thirteen books over the last twenty years published. I don't regret it, at least I can hold my published book in my hand.
