Butcher’s Husk
Butcher’s corn husk weavers
Emotional cohesions loom
Magic visionary casting reprieve
Shucked black silks steeping tea
Brewer of barley hops ferment
Whiskey flask hidden moments
Basket of leaves and dried cobs
Dust smells like earthy rich dirt
Kernels are ground with stone
Freshly made cornbread bakes
Drizzled sweetness of clover honey
Baking seasoned cast iron skillets
Ham hocks simmer navy beans
Ovens stoked with raw timbers flame
Frost kisses the northern wind’s chill
Under blankets of white rain falling
Meadows harvested now slumber rest
Wintry snow covers blue spruce towering
Sharp shin hawk hunts for pullet hens
The sparrows take cover safely roosting
Inside the barns quiet hay loft rafters
Stalwart stable women weave butcher’s husk
Their magic balms casting emotional reprieves
Steeping their corn’s black shucked silk tea
Baskets are woven with leaves and dried cobs
