Hunters

Into Every Soul

It’s a saying I learned through the bullhorn
looking down the cold barrel
while I was in the woods of the ole oaks
squirrel hunting…or maybe it was rabbit
or perhaps when I was thrust dancing
with those rockin love songs in the 70’s
bumping and grinding with hungry hips
and bare breast of flesh plunging blouses…

Either way it doesn’t matter…
We all have lessons in our path
Through the bulls-eye stud sight
or dance floors of one night stands
Either way you aim in to scope your target
…or your hips which bump & grind for more
we all have learned through time and consequence
motion tries with stillness
and quietude undresses with contemplation
as we all will continue to learn
evermore through blindfold’s eye…

But when the hunter becomes the hunted,
or the deceptive becomes deceived,
or the betrayer becomes betrayed,
it’s decidedly a new vision of circumstances
to know the truth of any situation…given or taken.
I know stillness in the duck blinds very well…

But I also prefer fresh duck to any store farms…
And so it goes on and on without questions or pretenses
that state of confusion some might not understand
but it is really all just a matter of fate arriving.
Twisting and turning her unbiased company.
Offering herself to even up the score cards,
and empowering the trusting visions of the heart
to see without doubts into every soul…
especially our own…as we bare witness
to trust our all empowering instincts-
Knowing the difference between the hunter
and the huntress…as we do the deceiver and the deceived…

Vickie, relativity is a powerful force. Each of us have been leveraged at some time in our life due to the relativity of a social perspective. At any moment in time prior to that, we would not have been under its influence. Some of us dare to oppose the accepted values of the day and time. Others cling fiercely to the norms. You poetically explore those circumstances in your poem. "trusting our all empowering instincts" is most probably the right path. May peace and love be always with you my dear friend. Jon Michel

Victoria,
You have such power in your pen..I can say that I have been a victim, I have been deceived and I have been the hunted.

There are many predators out there, and women especially need to be very cautious and savvy. We must protect ourselves and our children, no matter what.

Our heart and soul knows the truth about everything, we much listen for the clues and warnings..Our minds will protect us till the end.

Amazing poetry!

Much peace, love and light,
Amber

With powerful intention and affirmation of social blunder, you're in control with each line, Victoria...you're a victim as well as others of us which has had an ongoing emotional impact for years on all of our lives...I'm too emotional now to go on...

Love,
Sage

Brilliant! This poem is incredibly powerful in wisdom and metaphor ~ so many layers, so many vantage points to every choice in life ~ and we just can't be spared from the web which includes others who are deceptive, even if we ourselves try to become released~
Blessings,
Christine

As a man who was a hunter in past I will say that for those who hunt and actually eat what they kill I have respect. I put my weapons away a long time ago but know if the circumstances called for it my skills would return and allow me to do what was needed. I do not like the modern style of hunting where baits, tree stands, scented trails etc for there is no skill in that only out and out deceit and murder. I really enjoyed this write and the methaphors and similees that you included in it Vic, well done.
