One Step Ahead

She knew the reason why he had done it –

solely to get a reaction –

not too long ago, she would have obliged.

But she was stronger now –

perhaps even one step ahead.

There was no longer time in her life

for playing such childish games.

Life, she realized, is one and short –

too short to spend being unhappy.

So instead, she whispered a prayer –

not for herself –

nor for him –

but for the two of them –

to accept what is as purely what is –

and for the strength to move forever forward –

goodbyes also included.

There is a lot of feeling and definitely "psychology" in this poem. Moving forward is an internal force of life and anything that holds one back is an obstacle. Well said, Dawn.

Like a bolt between the eyes, Dawn. You nailed it. So many limp along in life, believing that it is the "right" thing to persevere when actually there is NO resolution, because the chemistry is all-wrong somehow. It's a bizarre thing when trying to do the best for the other (by honouring promises and entrenched commitments) becomes basically a slow-death of both, when the kindest and most fulfilling, honest thing would be to cut loose and set free. You paint such unyielding "failure" in stark colours here. May it lead many to "success". xx

Dawn, this work gives us that view on moving forward through all life and relationships, it is at times frustrating and can keep one within a hold that only weighs down the soul...your expression of whispering a prayer to say goodbye to the past is where one can see that strength...

nice work...
