We strive for permanence,

trying to hold on to

that which we know,

in fear of the unfamiliar,

often remaining idle,

seeking comfort in

the uncomfortable…

becoming not what we are meant to be,

but that which we choose.

YOU KNOW HOW I LOOK AT THINGS DAWN...'ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD TO THEM THAT LOVE GOD AND ARE CALLED ACCORDING TO 'HIS' PURPOSE'
...SOMEHOW...GOD WILL WORK IT OUT. BUT....IF ONE DOES NOT HAVE THIS VIEWPOINT...THIS IS A VERY SAD POSITION TO BE IN INDEED...WITHOUT EVEN BEING AWARE OF IT. VERY NICE WORK...MAKES THE READER STOP AND THINK. THANKS FOR THE SHARE AND BLESSINGS.

sadly, that which we know is rarely permanent; there is no such thing as the status quo, however much the conservative in us might wish it; the goal posts are always shifting. Conservatism is a noose around the neck - we stifle that which we try to maintain. And also most certainly we choose to stay safe within the toxically uncomfortable, crazy with the devils we know rather than the devils we don't, harvesting our own bitter crop. In seeking fruitfulness and abundance, we need to positively step beyond the stony ground... you've got me preaching to myself here, Dawn! Bless you - always a mind-matrix of which I'm very fond xx

Your photo goes so beautifully with your words. I agree that so often we strive to hold onto what we have--when we would have so much more if we would let go and allow ourselves to fly...

Dawn - Like the irony of the title which reflects our tendency to fear the unfamiliar even when the familiar is not satisfactory as in:

seeking comfort in

the uncomfortable…

becoming not what we are meant to be,

but that which we choose.

Thought provoking. - David

Very sage advice filtering through the lovely colours of this poem with such truth. Unless forced to move forward we will stagnate until life and all it's adventures pass us by.

Yes, the seasons do bring variations of mood. With the first cold spell here in FL where I live, calling for the heater to be turned on, I am completely aware that my mood is different than it was during hot sunny days. I love sleeping late in the cozy warmth of the comforter tucked about me.
