Nonna spoke of the
Great depression
And the Stock Market Crash
Of '29"
Telling of how
Men.
Rich men
Jumped off of high rises
Ending their own lives
Because they could not
Face a life
Without the riches
They fought so hard to keep.
She spoke of soup lines
That reached blocks
Down the street.
Today I look
At the state of the economy.
Well known corporations falling
Possibly a product
Of Corporate greed
Or just a product of
A sluggish economy
And I wonder if perhaps
We are headed for another great
Depression?

The Great Depression, as I understand it, happened at one fell swoop; this time 'round seems to be going on slower, so many didn't see the events unfolding until too late. I hope we're not going there again ...
