The Forgiving

And I a mere mortal man
Ask your forgiveness
For what I have done to your world

In hovels of wretchedness I have displaced your children
And from unshed wombs I have bayoneted unborn babies

In the sea I have tumbled fields of grain
While swollen stomachs of children begged for food

I have flown more colours of hate filled flags of fanaticism
Then those that can kiss a butterfly’s wings.

I am made mushroomed explosions
That put your volcanoes to shame
And to know I can melt humanity
Into the pith of the lava hatred I carry.

I have assembled armies
From amongst dreamy eyed youth
And cast them to wars across oceans

I have imprisoned the conscious of your faith
And gave it the voice I wanted.

I have searched those who sought your blessings
And burned them in the furnace of my wants

And you call me Man.
And I call You God

And then You tell me in the silent gust of the wind
That you don’t need my forgiveness.
And all you ask is that I forgive myself……
