The Heart of a Hero

Lyrics by Paul Mellette

Verse 1

To ride the white horse and wear the white hat
And to save the maiden fair
To look danger straight in itís eyes
And to plunge ahead without care
To feel the embrace of the woman you love
Standing between her and harmís way
To know that youíd do it without any thought
To be the one who saves the day...

Chorus

Though Iíve chosen the heart of a hero
Sometimes my hands are made of stone
But my desire is to be there for you
Iíd trade my life to spare your own
And sometimes even a hero
Doesnít get to make every play
He fumbles the ball and the game is lost...
But a hero never quits... not today...

Verse 2

To be the one who answers the call
When danger is at hand
To be the answer to what need may arise
To boldly make the stand
To find the exit when all hope is lost
To charge right through hellís flame
To know and to have and to hold my reward
Whenever you whisper my name

Chorus

Though Iíve chosen the heart of a hero
Sometimes my hands are made of stone
But my desire is to be there for you
Iíd trade my life to spare your own
And sometimes even a hero
Doesnít get to make every play
He fumbles the ball and the game is lost...
But a hero never quits... not today...

Bridge

Itís the heart that makes the hero
Not the clothes that make the man
Cowards can dress like cowboys
And never have to make a stand
Itís the fire burning in his eyes
And down deep in his soul
It will forge him just like iron
Heated by white hot coal...

Chorus

Though Iíve chosen the heart of a hero
Sometimes my hands are made of stone
But my desire is to be there for you
Iíd trade my life to spare your own
And sometimes even a hero
Doesnít get to make every play
He fumbles the ball and the game is lost...
But a hero never quits... not today...
