Hidden deep within the sweet and softly scented bowers
Of old perambulators filled with glistening golden flowers.
Brown eyed babies smile and add dimension to the loads
Pushed by gypsy mothers along the forest roads.

Evening come and minnows rise to meet the flickering flies.
And sweet as cherry bells is the sound of children’s cries.
Then sunset turns the pools where I have dipped my tired toes,
To colors both of amber, and a lovely rose.

Sometimes the deer come creeping out from where the dark trees shade.
Moving with a dancing gait to stand within this glade.
Listening first for any sound, then moving to the brink
Of water, doubling all their beauty, and bending down to drink.

So, if I am a gypsy, then I am greatly blessed.
For I have much that means that I can seldom be distressed
By this and that, without good cause, or feeble sentiment.
Or broken by a cruel hand, my heart will not lament.

It means that I see beauty in creatures great and small.
Can lift them with my own two hands if I should see them fall.
Have heard the song of the nightingale on oh so many nights.
And unforbidden also seen so many wondrous sights.

And I am myself as lovely as beholden will allow.
And to no one but my love would I ever kneel or bow
And I have the gifts of music, of singing, and of reeling.
And if a friend lies stricken, I know a way of healing.

For in the past I have been loved by poets, artists, kings.
Who found in me the truth they sought, and many other things.
Like love of life and loyalty, and gentle loving care.
Of which, till me, their life had been more than a little bare.

vivid and lovely,I find the title "So if I am a gypsy" wonderful. It applies to all young ones like me who would soon venture to unknown lands like a gypsy search of a muse.
thanks for sharing.

Well done. This would also work by shortening the lines to phrases. It would make your verses longer...give the reader pause. ~E

This was a wonderful poem. I have a place that I often go to where the deer and other animals are clearly seen and heard in the wild. This so much reminded me of those times. It is nice to read you once again. Samdavid1
