Midnight, Music, and Me

Another one of my odes to nighttime. I know that midnight only lasts a minute, but I got carried away with personification here.

Midnight, Music, and Me

Draw me close, Dear Midnight

Shackle me to your heart

Visit me in my dreams,

Of which you are a part

In cloudy memories,

I’ve heard your subtle song

Each note a coursing stream

For me to drift along

Soothed; rocking back and forth

Cradle my mind to yours

Can you deny your gifts…

Whilst my starved soul implores?

Take me under your wing

Fly with me by your side

Show me those priceless stars

`Tis `neath your crown they hide

Reveal the pulse of night

My heart will stay in tune

For to perform alone…

Inspires my soul to croon

Could you bear such solace…

From one not of your kind?

Though I’d gladly transform

And leave my world behind

Yet, what shall I become?

Already the moon dims

Shall I join the chorus…

Or compose nightly hymns?

Crickets as violins

The wind as harps and flutes

Clarinets are truly…

Whispering bamboo shoots

Frogs have natural bass

Rabbits thump out a beat

Birds voicing their glory

Cicadas dare compete

And to those sounds, we’ll dance

As though Morn doesn’t sleep

On tippy-toes we’ll twirl

O’er mountains we’ll leap

Dear Midnight, partner me

Curtsy, and let’s begin

Cup the curve of my back

Like dew upon my skin

The moon – a ballroom globe

The ground – our hardwood floor

Keep me pressed to your chest,

Like this, forevermore

In the kiss of shadows

Your touch turns raging fire

I blush `gainst ebony

Rose creeps ever higher

Circled in your embrace

Stayed by each breath you take

Dark and handsome Midnight;

Irresistible rake

Each move a prolonged need;

A feeling from within

Verily, I’m smitten

More…as we step and spin

You’re that feel in the air;

Nighttime tranquility

Your mask is my cover;

Half my identity

You haven’t caused my frown

Morn wears blame like a shield

She forces your retreat

`Tis her power to wield

Already her smile curls

Touching all like a mist

Stealing your arms from my waist

Ending our nighttime tryst

Go, since you must, my love

This is but a fasting

Morn’s beauty is bright, but…

`Tis not everlasting

This is beautiful and romantic Sheila, and very visual too. A poem that took me to the moon in a fantasy dream. Thank you for sharing.

Like the new pic-a-you on yur bio-page. And I love the classical tints in this. You do possess, poetess, oodles of romantic, sensitive, and clear perceptions as a writer.
You just keep getting better.

Sheila,
Your poem took my breath and made me feel very airy and free. Midnight hour is a bewitching hour, and you captured it quite well with this poem.
I do a lot of Shakespeare costume design and I read his works all the time, this poem has that kind of feel. Nice work.

Much peace, love, and light,

Glorious! An ode in the truest sense, a hymn of praise, joy, imagination and celebration and carried superbly by wonderful imagery; just so many good lines...among my favourites: "Clarinets are truly...Whispering bamboo shoots"..."Frogs have natural bass" and "Morn wears blame like a shield"
This is definitely among your very best and a certain keeper. Kudos!

CARRY ON CARRYING ON, SHEILA!!! Old Bill Shakespeare must be grinning from hear to ear! :)) A fine tribute and then some. Absolutely intoxicating, as is the moment that in this instance we all WANT to last forever as long as it hangs on your amorous words. Midnight is Romeo to your Juliet and will last eternally in the loving sentiments of this fine Ode. You certainly take us with you into this suspension of time. Splendid work! TY Kate xx

Shiela this piece was so heart touching and sensual, you captured the passion of the night, the warm of the stars, the sounds of Mother Natures orchestra and the feel of lovers on fire in a sinful embrace. This is one of your very best and one of my all time favorites that you have written. It inspires me now to sit down and right a lover's poem of my own. thank you for sharing such a wonderful gift.
