Open eyes,
fatal lies,
mothers sing
children lullabies,
as the night descends
upon the evil that men do.
Outside the wind blows,
inside a child’s eyes close,
and dreams begin
as Fathers sin.
Destiny denies us the
comfort of ignorance.
Memories replay
remorselessly.
Life relived: hours, days,
years passing by,
as intent belies
the moment’s lies.
Youthful vigor becomes
mortal rigor as arteries
and viewpoints harden,
calcified perspectives
spew invectives and
sanity comes unglued!
A life reviewed becomes
an occasion of desperate
and confused revision.
Open eyes,
fatal lies,
mothers sing
children lullabies,
as the night descends
upon the evil that men do.
Outside the wind blows,
inside a child’s eyes close,
and dreams begin
as Fathers sin.
Vows of eternal fealty -
highlighted by
the brightness of a
child’s smile -
convict the guilty.
Innocence beckons
through multitudinous
masks of sin.
The Rebirth of the Soul
promises the possibility of
beginning again.
Children laugh and play,
as mothers and fathers pray
to have enough to last
throughout the day.
Daddy does what he’s got
to do and mama averts her gaze
because she’s got to do
what’s got to be done, too.
And yet, the Sun still sets.
Open eyes,
fatal lies,
mothers sing
children lullabies,
as the night descends
upon the evil that men do.
Outside the wind blows,
inside a child’s eyes close,
and dreams begin
as Fathers sin.
The mundane drudgery of
daily life leads to unending
strife between man and wife.
The bills continue to amass
as gas and food prices rise
sky high and the politicians
lie, their pockets spilling over,
the Reaper begins to hover!
Pestilence and diseases
on the increase, murder
and suicide are the downside
of this consumer’s carnival ride
that we all deride but still
participate in, hoping, perhaps,
that we can glide through
the rough spots, listening
to the chorus of
glocks and nines
in the night as
our dreams
take flight.
Open eyes,
fatal lies,
mothers sing
children lullabies,
as the night descends
upon the evil that men do.
Outside the wind blows,
inside a child’s eyes close,
and dreams begin
as Fathers sin.
Leaving us lost and abandoned
with no hope in sight.
