Queen Bee indeed... |
|
April 10, 1976
"Can I kiss her?"
"Of course, that's what she's here for"
Your cheeks are pillows made especially for my lips. They are bottomless and warm and giving as my mouth and nose sinks softly within your flesh.
My baby girl...brand new but like a beautiful wilting flower in the summers breeze you are all floppy like a rag doll. Whatever shall will I do with you?
I shall nurture you in the sunshine, nourish you with food, keep you safe and love you for forever.
Oh, I know that you're a "Big girl" now, but sometimes it's hard to look at how you've grown and matured and the fact that YOU used to fit into me. Each and every day, time steals you away from me but I know you will always be a part of me.
When you had to leave, it was hard for me, and somehow I knew you wouldn't be coming back.
You came back, and now you’re off again.
Being your mother, the "strings" that are attached will never break. I will never let them. I will give the string some slack with the understanding that if you're ever in trouble, you can always count on me to reel you in.
"Queen Bee" buzzing all around with your shiny crown. A multitude of loveliness you leave in your wake as you cast a radiant light for someone to follow.
I know that you have the determination and drive to keep you going.
You are my beautiful flower but no longer wilting, but strong, indomitable and ready to take on whatever you encounter in life.
Always remember that you are loved
Happy Birthday!
Love,
Mommy

I know the title has nothing to do with this poem. It's just that I'll never forget the excitment in her eyes as she ran to the tree on Christmas morning saying "Toys!"

Marilyn, this is such touching piece. It took me back to the days when my children were little. There really is nothing more special than the joy in a child's face on Christmas morn. It is a blessing.
Thanks for sharing this meaningful write and also for all the kind reviews you left to my stories. I feel humbled by your praise.

Simply w o n d e r f u l. There is nothing like a daughter. I have learned so much from mine. Debi has two teenaged daughters now.
Talk about learning experiences. But. . .we are so lucky,
aren't we?!! Thank you for sharing this beautiful tribute.
