Augh sweet Miss Seray...I speak to the Monarchs and their voice comes back inside of your poetry. The poor Monarchs are surely doomed with the foretell of colder weather coming to their home south of the US. I read of this just yesterday. My heart is full with the flutter of their wings and the struggle they will endure. Your words are strength. Thank you.

Dear Marilyn,
I read this poem several times to delight again and again in the appreciation of its theme, your approach to the writing of it, and how the thought, feeling, verse form all join to form a singular richness of impact.
I don't know whether you intended the poem to be read on more than one level. For me, though, it DOES operate on the levels of the literal and the symbolic.
The free verse form is perfect for the work and, all in all, I would classify this as a poem of simple elegance which, like all good poetry, evokes thoughts, feelings and emotions similar (I imagine) to those which inspired it. |
