This poem clearly describes the wisdom of daddy gone but not forgotten. I am sure that most all of you can relate to this verse. Enjoy!
|
My Daddy lived seventy-plus years,
but it’s only just recently,
His words of wisdom ring in my ears
reverberating words from yesterday.
“A daughter’s a daughter all her life”
I recall hearing him say.
“A son’s a son until he takes a wife.”
His expressions ebb truth today.
“If you can’t say something good,
then choose to say nothing at all.”
“And just what’d happen if we could
learn to walk before we crawl?”
Growing older has made me realize,
the value of wisdom in daddy’s head.
And the experiences that made him wise,
have passed down to me instead.
Yes, the beauty of aging is priceless,
since, we too will leave behind
A mirrored image of daddy,
for a new generation to find.
Listen to your father, who gave you life, and don’t despise your mother when she is old. Proverbs 23:22

Hello Frances,
You write from the heart and this reminded me of my Daddy who's now
89 and battling with cancer, his words still echo in my mind and his face mirrored in my memory. Thank you for this lovely poem.

Your use of the Proverb gives emphasis to this wise poem. From generation to generation, the responsibility to pass on the wisdom of the Lord is of great importance.
