Searching the horizon for a sign.....


At the lowest point in life
When all hope has been decayed
Self-mocking thoughts of loneliness
And this empty bed I’ve made

Spiteful harlot known as love
Tender kiss disguising pain
Leaves me fruitless and abandoned
In self-pity’s icy chains

All too often played the fool
After letting someone in
Only to regret my actions
Once they’ve burrowed ‘neath my skin

Taking all and leaving naught
I survive, a hollow shell
Left with only pale defenses
Heart entombed in deep, dark well

Passing days allay my fears
Though my pleasures remain few
Time again to face the torment
For the hunt begins anew

Brilliant smile demands homage
I am blinded far too soon
Could this bright star be my savior
Or the ever-mocking moon

My life now comes full circle
Do I stand at Heaven’s gate
Or will I feel the Devil’s barb
I’m a captive of cruel fate

To this mistress I now plead
Heap the hourglass with sand
All my dreams and hopes stand ready
Hoping freedom is at hand

Let fair maiden be my beacon
On the wanton seas of love
Weary soul may find its harbor
Held aloft by gentle dove
