My Reality

The sudden flash of light startled my wandering mind
I was thinking of one vague day
When I tasted my first kiss
I couldn’t remember where and how it happened
But I knew those soft and trembling lips
Were yours and mine
Those clammy hands nervously touching my breasts
Wobbly knees moving clumsily
Those hushed timid whispers
Yes, they were yours and mine
It was a time when I couldn’t see myself anywhere
But in your eyes
Then without even knowing why
Apart, we drifted away…
Only to find ourselves face to face again
Weathered and wrinkled by time and space between us
Now that we’re here
Now that we’ve come this far
I must hold on and not fear
Yet I am never certain
There is nothing to hold on to except words
Expressions of love and affection
One or two tender moments together
Oh Lord, I’ve waited so long
Please don’t let me wait some more
Let him be my reality.
