How sweet this earth,
How fragrant this world,
It cleared the grassy fields
And softly, followed from wind,
Beyond the strawberry patch,
A beautiful, harmonious view
That gave one short reprieve.
And down the river, sweeping by,
It grew rich a long ways off,
To linger and sit a spell,
And draw it to the mind,
And lie on grassy hill between,
To find that missing remnant
Of self.
And time was still. To be content
Away from crowds,
As steady breeze and fragrance went,
Deeply echoed pine,
The very soul of earth rejoiced
For that secret part of hearts.
Such violets grew from quiet voice,
And clover and baby's breath in thought,
Bellowing life,
Summer's grace,
Caressing limber plants,
Honeysuckle and jasmine fill the air,
And tiger lily everywhere,
Finds the moment well.
