The gun shells sounded far away
They are going to tear me away again
I can hear the pounding in your heart and mine
I can feel the desert tanks rolling by
Bare barracks and men in green fatigues
Soldiers yet, but civilians beneath
Marching with aplomb but no heed
And hearts like mine left to bleed
Running as fast as I can, arms outstretched
Fearing I cannot reach you yet
Hurtling, falling, numb with terror
Dirt in my mouth, tears of horror
A gun at your head, too many whispers
I look on mutely, no more options here
Conscious of nothing but dreadfulness
I just wish to be one with you in life and death
You look back at me wordlessly
The world encapsulated in a moment of dread
There is a gun in his hand
And it’s pointing at your head
Running bare feet, heels digging into the hot sand
Blisters searing through the skin of my feet
My face is hidden by a muslin band
A weapon of steel hidden in my hand
The near by church rings out some bells
Foretelling doom before it fell
Snatching the rapier with all my might
Snuffing out life before it could fight
Rushing to save my beloved’s life
I could not reach him,
It was too late
They shot him right behind his head
I sit unmoving in this dreary cell
Looking forward, to a bullet in my head.
