There are some who still scoff at it
But I swear it's all true
For those cursed on the Cubs and Red Sox

In their Hell-burnt orange or Heavenly blue
For those cursed on the Cubs and Red Sox

Even though now again for all to see
In The Lord's Holy Year two-thousand-and-three
Fans in two cities prayed, "Don't let it be!"
For those cursed on the Cubs and Red Sox

You could hear The Babe laugh from his very grave
As both players and watchers once more failed to save
Another blessing The Good Lord gave
For those cursed on the Cubs and Red Sox

Where still The Bambino was pointing out
To where a ball pitched would soon be about
Then delivered his message with an almighty clout
Beyond the ivy for those who'd yet shout
For those cursed on the Cubs and Red Sox

So the memories of he and that Satan-horned goat
Continue to haunt those who desperately dote
On two fields where destiny has long been wrote
For those cursed on the Cubs and Red Sox

Oh the names have changed o'er the years in the ranks
From two Williams to Yaz to Sweet Ernie Banks
Yet still those in Fenway and Wrigley give thanks
For those cursed on the Cubs and Red Sox

Since someday they know instead of tears
They will revel amongst deafening cheers
Of fans who would wait a googol of years
For those cursed on the Cubs and Red Sox

The Final Phase

I am a fan of the New Orleans Saints. Trust me, I understand the curse very well. But I also understand the loyalty and the passion that make Cubs and Redsock fans what they are. Great poem.

If I was ever to get into sports it would be because of the fans that speak so well of the sport. The legendary stories of baseball, I have been finding very appealing. Great write!
