Little Catholic Girl

This is a poem that I conceived after having a nightmare. I feel that it is the most exposing of any entry herein. (Note to the reader, yes I have been to therapy). My childhood was a difficult one filled with many abuses. But there was a payoff, God led me to my husband and my life has been a wonderful dream ever since.

Little Catholic Girl

Catholic girl, little Catholic girl,

You should wear white at your wedding.

So keep your pleated skirt tight round your knees.

Don’t let those dirty boys do what they please.

Catholic girl, little Catholic girl,

You have to honor thy father.

You have to bend as though you were a reed.

For you know, your father also has needs.

Catholic girl, little Catholic girl,

You need to go to confession.

But when you get there you lie through your teeth.

For Daddy’s secrets you always must keep.

Catholic girl, little Catholic girl,

You have to honor thy mother.

You hope that your silence will keep the peace.

You can pretend it was all a bad dream.

A very courageous and well expressed write! None of it was yore fault, you had a monster for a Daddy. I see writing talent runs in the Nassano family. Welcome to AD SC
