I wrote this to honor my husband. He is the bright light that led me into a meadow where we have lived happily for nearly 30 years. He taught me to live and to love.

I thought I was lost,

cold, bleeding redwoods

too thick, too monstrous.

Shadows blocking my view

of the meadow

that I thought would

never be mine.

Then, quite miraculously,

a bright ray touched my hand,

warming me,

revealing the path.

drawn, I followed its heat

and was bathed in this light.

My heart finally alive,

in the meadow.

I danced,

I spread my arms wide,

and spun around, and around,

allowing warmth to permeate my being,

until breathless,

I lie down in the long cool grass,

blades damp with the dew

of my joyful tears,

and I gave myself

to your light

in the meadow.
