"And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." - Gospel of Matthew 24:12

       E X P E C T I N G    A D A M

       by Z.B.McClure               7-6-09

      Bending low to serve

I nearly tore my back in two.

'Least that's how it felt to me.

Such awesome pain, stabbed-out my breath--

        OH!

And froze my mortal frame 'round

       that arresting pain.

Chose to serve on just the same.

       Foolish person that I am.

              ~

       By some fellow humans:

       Received their well-earned

       sympathy.

       Some have known this kind

       of pain before-

       But from others?

       No sympathy  it seemed.

                ~

LORD !  Where is the humanity

       in Humanity?

       Has sensitivity been so jaded

       that some have cauterized

       their hearts so that

       they won't feel again?

                  ~

       Oh I would not judge

       my fellow man!

       For I know myself

       from gazing into God's Mirror.

My own heart's tendencies to morph

       insensitive...then cool,  till frozen

        like my frame transfixed

       by pain!

                    ~

       But still,  I ask :

       where is the humanity

        in Humanity?

       where is  adam ?

"and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none." Psalm 69:20
come to my mind when I read your poem about your back pain.
(Actually this is some of the text used in Handel's Messiah.)
Glad your back is better (read that in a later blog.)

A clear portrait of the hardened heart, but even at that they are prone to melting, very wise...

Be always safe,

'...THE SUBSTANCE OF THINGS HOPED FOR, THE EVIDENCE OF THINGS NOT SEEN...' THE IMAGERY IN THIS WORK IS GREAT AND PAINTS A CLEAR PICTURE OF ONE FRUSTRATED WITH THE LACK OF 'LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER' IN THIS WORLD. THANKS FOR SHARING AND GOD BLESS. JOYCE
