Love, the poets' staple, the essence of who we are.

Shadows, suggest a path

my imagination whispers

the feints lead me another way

a warm hand temporarily overwhelms my senses

guiding me in turns quick left, then right

in opposition to the whispers and shadows

I ascend, descend, retreat

this course through love's maze

holds many perils, many rewards

my head and heart spin

I'm now pallid with disillusionment

the aroma of lilies has turned acrid

the petals I cast into the winds with the dust

clouds of confusion hide the revealing light

dare I trust another emotion

the maze to love has overwhelmed me

does it exist at the beginning or the end

will it stand the test as I traverse

the ploys of many who seek to deceive

those that will not know my love

when it glows in my eyes

wisdom tells me to run away

the resident fool within begs that I stay

harbingers of defeat gather quickly about me

once again I'll take my leave

this thing of love I contest not well

when the whispers are sweet

the shadows soft and ushering

I will relent and follow

where my heart shall lead

Jon,
"A Maze" inside emotions...you draw the depths of reality with passions detail, yes...this is a journey into the many sides of loves voice. I really enjoyed reading this poem, listening to your heart speak...the lines Rigis quote were exceptional to me too as I read them, but also...your closing line took me into an era of time pastwards...so beautiful being held in the arms of hope....

I am very familiar with what you express via your verses here, Jon. Love is a wonderful and mysterious thing and to me, there are many levels of it; all quite unique. Thank you, Jon. Love and peace to you,

Jon,
These words from the heart, it's definitely the heart speaking here, take me through the trials and difficulties of deepest feelings where like everyone else who has ever felt anything I struggle. But there's more than evaluation in this, there's rich understanding and warmth and compassion for the fragile human condition.

C'mon Jon, you gotta be a bit grounded here. Don't you think,
"wherever SHE may lead", would be more realistic....LOL
Just pokin fun.....I enjoyed it.

Love is for women to define. We mortal men are lost on emotion as our hormones rage to procreate.
