This is a mood piece inspired by the flowering pear trees along the banks of the Nanticoke River.

Wild pear blossoms spin and float

white beauties with pink blush

thick pollen of yellow hue blankets

the green of Imagination hollow

new born faces peek from tall hickory

gaping beaks screech the melody of hunger

fingerlings dart and weave

maneuvring in a survival dance to elude

the river patrol of soaring ospreys

seeking breakfast to sate the aerie

occupants, patience has not yet found

will be quelled with nothing less

at this time when earth lies covered

in the embrace of immense beauty

duties test parental capacity

the screech of youthful hunger will be

abated by bloated bellies alone

the song of nature is sweet

albeit absent this day, of a tweet-tweet

I like your style of writing. It is so informative. Our pear trees are blossoming along the streets in Harrisburg now, just as you described them. The song of nature is so sweet as you say too. God Bless you and your wife too. Lois C.

You are a truly gifted poet Jon. You bring the visual into your works which is so essentital. It separates the novice from the master. You're the kind of poet I want to feature at my website.
May your pen never run dry.
Blessings,
Marcia

Jon,
This is rich and vivid, fully alive, full of being and becoming; that 6th line, "gaping beaks screech the melody of hunger" is outstanding and I'm envious I didn't write it, but a great poem doesn't rely on just one line to carry it, it needs them all, and you, my friend, have delivered. Excellent work!

Soon there will be food in abundance for all as the season progresses. Such profound beauty within your words of observance...

Sorry there is no serene song of spring. The beauty you describe is unbearably remembered in this bland, almost seasonless existence. The only respite is the varied song of the year round mocking bird who imitates every other love song for his mate this time of year.

Jon, I grew up in an area where pear, peach, cherry and every other blossom were blankets upon the hillsides like clouds floating directly from heaven, where spring lasted an eternity, and all the life and twitter as you described it so beautifully. A full deck of spring cards you handed out here, I could smell the air, thanks for the reminder! Blessings! Jasmin Horst
