How poignant and sad when we remember all of the promises we meant to keep, but somehow they just got washed out to sea with the out going tide...beautifully done, Jon Michael

surf advances and retreats
regular as earth's heartbeats...
I love these lines, Jon, and your mastery of the
the ebb and flow of the tides: love's promise swells
in the shimmering moonlight, only to be dashed on the
on the beach in the indifference of daybreak, unresolved
in its predictable retreat to the sea.

As usual and almost always, promises fail, actions fulfill. Even for parents, this is a commonly unnoticed practice that saddens one's heart.
For lovers, it is a death sentence..."for love whispered a nuptial symbiotic embrace when young love strolled to where moonlit shimmers upon a sea of promises, not kept." Sad yet excellent.

| Jon, this is poetry with passion, and the changing of the tides like that of the pulse of the blood, and the ravaged moment, a beautiful weave of the interplay of the moment of light and passion and the sadness of it's demise. Blessings! Jasmin Horst |

Jon,
Karen's right about the quiet, discreet atmosphere, and there is, too, a haunting sadness permeating this poem, tinges of regret and looking back with a shy fondness to the sea of promises. Wonderfully evocative and poignant.
