a warm breeze ruffles white hair

a park bench and life shuffles by

kindness hides within hazel eyes

no match for lithe bodies apace

in the race to win this day's grace

silence has arced a smile earned

in the face of storied sacrificial lines

etched from experiences and time

life is the rhyme they chased

it exists in no particular time or place

yet flourishes in splendor everywhere

to seek a view the sparrow owns

not an adventure longer embraced

forays of pleasure are now sought

silly games of ego driven desires

he abandoned in the times of long ago

bring him a soft hand to gently hold

a shoulder to rest his weary head upon

shadows are long on the grassy knoll

time has exacted its relentless toll

Jon,
Warm, contemplative and deep and while the theme is emotionally demanding for both writer and reader the poem doen't degenerate into sentimentality but is propped by a fighting spirit and a strong sense of realism, and a sense of the wonder and gift of being alive. Excellent work.
