we journey into uncertain destination
marking our steps in the interaction

with fellow travelers along the way
clutching the hands of good deeds
casting aside neither lilies nor weeds
sipping from the deep wells
sharing wine and the bread of joy
we measure our progress with love
spreading and sowing with impunity
humanity knows the paths of union
are accomplished by peaceful serenades
hills of malevolent thoughts are leveled
the air is set astir by strummed harp, lute
grace has gathered us gloriously together
you and you, we, my brothers and sisters
we who journey into destination uncertain

so delicate and a breath of fresh-air where "roadies" are concerned. I think, being Brit, you are speaking here of those who, in the past, we have termed "tramps" or, more poetically "knights of the open road", denegrated to "travellers" these days. What distinguishes modern-day travellers from the "knights" of old is perhaps very little - maybe they start off down their roads of freedom and independence with the same spiritual and aesthetic values in mind, but there are also now those who are drawn into this lifestyle through poverty and homelessness as well as other "unfortunate" circumstances. I like this romantic view very much, Jon. It makes me think of the nomadic bardic tradition, too. Beautiful lyricism here. "Roadies" to me conjure visions of those employed by touring rock-n-roll bands to safeguard and install their equipment from place to place! :)) I like also the fact that you have chosen minimalist punctuation in this piece, to run your thoughts and language on.... xx

Jon,
This poem comes full circle, much like situations in our life seem to. I like how you used roadside imagery in this poem to show thoughts and feelings. Hugs,

A VERY interesting concept, Jon Michael, and I wouldn't want to know my Earthly destination, but with God's Grace I want my Final Destination to be with Him. What a Destination that would be...
Roadies...yup, very interesting

To steal a phrase from someone much wiser than me, 'the fun is not in arriving at your destination, it is found in the journey.' paraphrase....

You have penned this quite well.

Jon,
Love the title, an excellent take on the idea, and love the way you develop your theme, the journey of life itself, the most challenging and demanding of all odysseys. Very fine indeed.
