A Cay Time

Time is the test of a man found in the ancient sea sands.

lemon twists nuzzled lime slices

dark rum laced a receptive tumbler

languishing in light rum and curacao

stirred cubes of ice tinkled with joy

grenadine lazed shamelessly therein

listening to pineapple breathe heavily

through cayenne pepper and bitters

a lithe digit was solicitous to me

my imagination interjected and deceived

was but an animated stirrer beckoning

planter's punch and conch chowder

lunch for a Cay man would be served

green waters lapped the cove's harbor

quenching coral sand's voracious thirst

legends and mirth placated a westerly

tortises knew routes to a sailor's pleasure

in Cays latitudes I had played many days

grouper called from the depths enticing

my sporting ways to venture and play

what other value have an aging Bertram

and seagoing man past their primes

than to dice among the Caribbean and coral

Truly you have given your readers a splendid "taste" of the Carribean cays and life among them if one so chooses; thank you, Jon. Love and peace to you,

Vivid imagery. I wouldn't mind being there , having a rum spiced drink and catching a grouper. My mother in law used to make the best conch chowder in the world!...Enjoyed this timely poem!!!!!M

Your picturesque imagery strums my inner beachcomber side, and for a moment I was there as the smells of chowder wafts lightly through the air and a chilled drink temps me to stay...this one is now my favorite one of yours, Jon Michael.
peace and love dear friend, Carole~

This one seems to cover all the senses, Jon. It reminded me of the day I spent in Grand Cayman. We went underwater in a sub (the only way one can get me under water!!), right where they filmed The Abyss. Beautiful sights. You brought the memory back vividly. Hugs,
Sheila

Now that's living off the sea. A fine sense of finer liquor concoctions, to boot.

A little rum, lime slices (and Coca Cola) sounds good to me...and the conch chowder makes it g-r-e-a-t! Any room at the table by the Cay for another Caribbean dreamer, Jon? So enjoyed all the images of your poem, friend!!

Jon,
So evocative and beautifully rich in image and setting: cocktail hour, dramatic sunset, exotic fishing and fresh fish dinner...a gambol and a gamble in coral seas. I'm there with you in spirit.
