my last poem

verbiage and verse with no heart to enrich verve in abeyance

my last poem

ardor and charity shall embrace
titanium white from this scribe’s nib
coursing script governing verse
languorous    not beholding to terse

imagination will be blushed scaling
my lexicon for final measures of droll
to dissuade maudlin manifestations
begging a symphony metered by profile

tremulous surges inflict their toll
my arrogance and compassion team
to make an awkward embrace
will and will not, adversarial ploys

hold sway for the work is tenuous
advance and mark retreats carefully
think aloud summon all convictions
yet fear no moment from my heart

and so it will be….my last poem

No, poets never write their last poem until their hands are cold in death and cannot pick up the pen. Lovely work.

This is as fresh and powerful as any poem of your past collections. I can see the wealth of energy bubbling behind it and so i have no fear of readin your last poem. Great work, Jon.

I read this more as "my latest" poem, Jon; certainly, I hope it is thus. Also, I see it as your last poem that may be at some time in the future. Keep writing and sharing, my friend. Love and peace to you,

JON, MY FRIEND, YOU AND I BOTH KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT YOUR LAST POEM. FOR YOU ARE A POET AND AS LONG AS GOD GIVES YOU BREATH, OUT OF YOU WILL FLOW THE PHRASES THAT TESTIFY OF YOUR LIVING, WHICH STRENGTHEN YOU AND INSPIRE OTHERS. TO BE A POET IS NOT A 'CHOICE', IT IS A 'CALLING'. HOWEVER, TO AD'S GREAT DISADVANTAGE AND SADNESS, YOU MAY VERY WELL 'CHOOSE' TO PLANT YOUR WISDOM AND LIGHT IN ANOTHER PLACE WHERE YOU DEEM THE SOIL MORE FERTILE, AND WE HAVE NO OTHER OPTION BUT TO ACCEPT WHAT YOU DECIDE. I WILL MISS 'YOU' JON AND I KNOW I AM NOT ALONE. CONSIDER WELL AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT FORGET US FOR WE WILL NOT FORGET YOU. GOD BE WITH YOU AND MUCH LOVE, BLESSINGS AND AN ABUNDANCE OF FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

verbiage and verse with no heart to enrich verve in abeyance

... there is a state which every writer knows that pushes through and past such "last poem" feelings, Jon; then comes the autopilot of "just keeping writing" until the next authentically creative wave comes. I actually think it's impossible for poets to lay down the pen, actually and metaphorically. The minute I have "written my last poem" is the moment the new shoots emerge. I wish you well in any new directions you must take, but firmly believe you cannot deny the Muse too long. Be well, be blessed... and be back! :)) xx

Jon Michael,

I surely hope you're not talking about this being your last poem. You'd be depriving all of us your beautiful prose. But as Ron said, if you must go, then I guess you must. Best of luck, dear friend.

I hope you're talking about your last poem. I mean the one you wrote before. If not, I bid you well, for one day I will hang up the poet's pen as well.

This a tragedy, reminds me of "Wagners Liebestot" please consider going back on stage. As a reminder, I have added something here for you to consider, another tragedy that nearly happened.

The death of opea in Eire? Wide Open Opera’s production of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde and more suggests otherwise
Rumours of the death of opera have been greatly exaggerated, and a cohort of fresh Irish productions are in the pipeline, writes MICHAEL
