Who would have believed it...

The Awakening of O’Malley

The day of O’Malley’s awakening had arrived with a blast.
All the St. Patty’s day decorations went up very fast.
The Waif told O’Malley he couldn’t miss this event.
For he would discover all his desires before lent.

So O’Malley arrived at the Waif’s little Inn.
That’s where the awakening was soon to begin.
She first showed O’Malley the treasures he seeks.
The 10,000 caret diamond door knobs were his first peak.

I use them merely to open a door, simply a way to enter a room.
O’Malley thinking she was nuts but followed this nutty loon.
As they entered the kitchen O’Malley’s heart stopped.
In seeing all solid gold appliances and solid gold pots.

In the bedrooms were all solid brass beds with ermine sheets.
This house was a fortune which made O’Malley’s heart skip beats.
“Does this loony tune Waif know the treasure that’s here?”
O’Malley kept pondering, as he accepted a Killians beer.

Still in shock O’Malley followed the Waif as she led him outside.
Where the parade was beginning and full of St. Patty’s day pride.
Everyone made their way to the Waif and O’Malley standing there.
Bringing gifts for O’Dessa with presents that were priceless and rare.

A baker gave her bread and sweets, a cook gave her more delicious treats.
The butcher arrived bearing a month supply of delicious prime meats.
The plumber fixed her pipes and the gardener fixed the holes in the lawn.
And it went on like that from the early evening and right into the dawn.

“This is my treasure O’Malley all my riches in this world.”
“These loving friends sustained me and my whole world unfurled.”
“All the beautiful things in my house are appealing for sure.”
“But they never fulfilled me, they offered no cure.”

“It was the hearts of these people that keep me going each day.”
“Do you understand O’Malley, you look kind of gray?”
O’Malley remembered all the times he was hungry and sick,
When no one was there to help him or feed him a lick.

He thought of times he needed a friend to give him a hand.
And no one came to aid him or came to help him stand.
Oh, yes he understood for the first time ever what the Waif meant.
And he fell in love with O’Dessa for his heart was opened and spent.

“O’Dessa I want you to have all my treasure buried by the big rock.”
“I want you to distribute it to all those who by the economy are socked.”
O’Dessa was so ecstatic about the awakening in O’Malley that this night did make.
But didn’t know how to tell O’Malley that all his gold was entirely fake.
