The Fear Of Within
A black palfrey
A white steed
A good person
A black deed
Into a strange land
I shudder to go
Of places and people
Did I ever know
Honor and truth
Are not common tools
In this dark place of
Misguided fools
Fog and mist
And mystery abound
And every step is a fright
Every sight a queer sound
A veil of pretense
That covers naught good
Impedes my travels
As if in moving I could
Escape my own fate
Rewrite my own play
Correct my mistakes
Make my wrongs go away
Guilty questions intrude
Forgive and forget?
Face facts, make amends
Sometimes it’s not yet
Time to be relieved
Of the burden of sin
Sometimes one has to live
With the fear of within
