I went out to get my mail today and low and behold, my daffodils were blooming around the mailbox...I was at once happy and sad, knowing it was too early and they would freeze more than likely before they had lived their full measure. I felt as confused as they looked. Tomorrow I will go take photos outside, and then cut some and bring them in the house where they are likely to last longer.

Fickle February

The daffodils hung

 their heads today

They did not know

 which way to sway

Or whether in fact

 to bloom or not

Fickle February,

season's rules she has forgot.

So bloom they did

 for warmth did cheer

For them to sprout up

 and get in gear

No choice now but to

ride it out in a huddle

Since Mother Nature’s

 message is so befuddled.

Kathy, I love it. My favorite flowers...a true sign of spring...a true sign of hope. Lets hope Feb. listens to the flowers and remembers the rules. Great write kathy.....

Daffodils are my favorite flower. So delicate yet so tough, perfect harbingers for early spring and its wild, wishy-washy weather. A lovely write. Rebecca

What a great poem! It is so spot on the way we feel when
too warm or cold weather makes things happen that aren't
supposed to, leaving us feeling restless and ill at ease.
