was listening to a classic country music station, and this poem came to mind...enjoy! :)

merle, loretta, dolly, good ole willie nelson, too..
good old music guaranteed to chase the blues!

pasty cline, roy acuff, boxcar and his train songs,
that's true country music, let's all just sing along!

back when country was COUNTRY, how i miss those days...
what i hear now is enough to make me want to walk away!

whatever happened to TALENT, now looks are all the rage,
instead of originality, there's copycats on just about ev'ry page!

i want my loretta lynn, my conway twitty, and george jones...
true country music that's due to bring shivers to my bones!

i don't need shania, keith, or these one hit wonders...
i want REAL country, music that really thunders!

songs that tell a story, songs about life...
songs about cheatin', songs about strife!

don't need no silly pop, that's not for me...
give me loretta, that is much more my speed! :)

Much of the real talent in today's Country Music
are the studio musicians backing the current singers.

Today's Country is mostly Pop with a twang.

But there are still good new writers and singers
coming up every year....

Personally, I think Hank Williams,
despite all his fame,
is one of the most underrated talents
in the history of American Music....

You are correct, grasshopper! There is a big need for traditional country music, and people that all don't look like they were from the same beauty mold. I think you want to sing along and know that the song and the singer are real, and they have heart, and they also may have warts! I think you should keep demanding the thunder and the honest country songs. Today's music has become too much the performer and too little the meaning of the words. Keep smiling, tornado!!

SO right!! And so well-said!! Or I should say, sung. ~~ Question:
how did Willie Nelson get to be the sexiest man alive {not counting my husband, Denzel Washington, and Paul Newman}??? Man, 'at man

and the acting. . .whoa. Forgive the digression, please. Thank you for the ode to country music and musicians as they were. Keep sangin' & dayncin' & carryin' the flame high!! Love & Willie-chills, 'Pea' <3

OH so true, so true gf!(bty, I'm back!) Surgery went well! I'm country to the bone but listening to these classic singer song writters is like going home. Patsy Cline, My God what a voice! Music that touched the heart and told a story. I enjoy doing karoke from time to time and its these "older" songs I enjoy the most. I have to say that I am still a sucker for Vince Gills voice and Collin Rays older stuff. They can sing me to sleep any night! God bless ya! I have a lot of catching up to do with my favorite poets. Keep up the good work!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Karen. No truer words were said. Although I do happen to like Shania and Martina McBride, the rest are just Nashville's window dressing. I also like Trisha Yearwood, but she has gotten away from her original mood. I think there is more Garth Brooks in what she does now. But the legends of country music will always be there in my heart. and what was he called??? Th Tennessee Blue Yodler, Will Rogers??? We cannot forget him no matter how we try. Patsy Montana, Hank Williams, Sr. Kitty Wells, and the list is endless. Just like the movie making they do today, today's country is not even country anymore, but really pop music. Thnx for sharing sis. May the Lord Jesus bless you, and be with you aways,a nd at your side constantly. Every morning I woke to the sound of my Dad's alarm clock radio blaring these classics. God knows as a teen, I hated the sound of that thing, but it got into my soul. The lyrics were about life and the performers sang from the gut with the gift God gave 'em. Today, I'm still in love with the soul of it. Give me some good old Southen Rock and I'm good. Again, the dollar bill has raped and pillaged the classics. he he he.

I agree, besides George Strait, Reba, Garth and an odd love for Rascal Flatts, I'll take the old stuff, too. Shania needs more clothes, Toby Keith seems to be in love with himself and in general, music is not the same. Who cares if Kenny Chesney married Renee Zellweger. All we care about is will he write a good, cheating song when it ends, less than a year from now! I'm partial to Kenny Rogers, myself. "The Gambler"... all the way. But, I like my Oldies and Classic Rock from the 50's, 60's & 70's, too. This new age "music" in that genre is noise, to me!
Take care,

P.S. I am a little partial to one new artist, though. Erika Jo, who won "Nashville Star" is from Angleton, TX and her grandparents are from Jackson, Ohio, my childhood home. They run the local pizza place and for an 18-year old, she does have a good, strong voice. She released her 1st CD on June 14th.

You were the one who introduced me to country music; you were nine when you began listening to it (and boy, did I make fun of you). Well now, see where it got me--I love country better than anything! I'll still listen to other genres of music, but country music is where it's at! :) You're sadly right: it seems that nowadays, there's no originality; everyone's a copycat or pin up poster. Bring back the good ole days!!

An excellent poem--well done!
