Inspired by a promise made to me by someone I had met through that if we worked out, we'd honeymoon in Hawaii; however, it did not work out for reasons of no one's fault toward the other. I became very skeptical of trusting anyone and I had so longed for a chance encounter to find my match in this world. That would come a year later. I met a man while we both traveled and we started dating in a small town outside of Kokomo, IN during our travels. We were both in search of someone and had failed at the match sites so we both packed up and worked for the carnival - finding each other there.

The search for love was long
It seemed harder on this year
to find a heart to match hers
but was such a heart even near?

All she had was her work
she never went to the bars.
So she turned to the internet
embattled by love’s old scars.

She was promised Hawaii but only got Kokomo... Indiana
Sorting out her life...looking for reason in her sad soul.
Love’s own curse seemed evident to her aching heart.
Never seeing the shores of Hawaii...only Indiana roads.

One man came to find her
but his path ceased not there.
He continued to roll on
breaking her without a care.

She wondered if she was defective -
why was her heart so naive?
What made her so hard to love?
Why’s the heart a reason to grieve?

He promised Hawaii but she only got to Kokomo... Indiana
Sorting out her life - floating back to her gypsy soul.
Love’s own curse seemed evident to her traveling heart.
Never seeing the shores of Hawaii...only Indiana roads.

She traveled again to find herself
hoping that there was more to her.
It was dreadful to be alone at all
and she knew the road was the cure.

Back with the metal and back with the lights
she found her voice she had lost one night
seeking a fortune if a fortune could be found.
A voice had found her - it shared her ground.

He never mentioned Hawaii while in Kokomo... Indiana
Two lost souls traveling - each had half a gypsy’s soul.
Each of them longing to hear someone say “I love you”
Each of them found on the back stretches of Indiana roads.

Chance encounters still happen like in those fairy tales
and give you a racing heart that’s about to explode.
True life happens when you feel that true life is over
Miracles can happen on the back stretches of Indiana roads.
